The Journey Continues

It is now 2020 and I am still maintaining my weight loss and continue to make healthy choices. Covid-19 has presented all of us with challenges, we cannot allow this situation or any emotional situation to undermine the work you have put forth.

The Mind controls the body - for me what works is focusing on making healthy choices for my next eating opportunity, I cannot stress about the past or even a bad decision earlier in the day; hit the reset button review your health and fitness goals then move forward.

Maintaining motivation is challenging - I have added a new section on the web site in the navigation below on Disc Golf a sport that I have recently ventured into, it keeps with up with the “next opportunity” theme . I have found that if I exercise for the sake of exercising I lose motivation quickly, however I have found success by finding purpose in my exercising - for me surfing has been my primary motivation - every pound that I get lighter it becomes easier to get up and make the critical launch window. Stairs can be a daunting task, however the cardiovascular impact is immense in which my wave count nearly tripped due to my quick recovery time.

Since 2013 I have been supporting local farms though the CSA - Community Supported Agriculture has been the cornerstone of my success having fresh organic vegetables delivered to my community from hundreds of miles away. I meal plan for the week based upon the seasonal vegetables i receive. Having lots of vegetables on hand makes my job of making healthy choices easier.

Diagnosis day - January 18th, 2012

Heading to the doctors that morning - i missed my annual physical in June, i had no concern for my health at this point I was doing very little exercise and had a very carbohydrate rich diet;

My symptoms were getting worse - on the drive back from Florida after moving my mom into her new digs - i started noticing my symptoms as I had an urgency to use the bathroom.  Over the next couple of months my vision became blurry at times, which was chalked up to getting older.  I then noticed that there was some lose skin around my triceps, which was a concern I was not trying to lose weight and more importantly my overeating, drinking of soda and Gatorade should be increasing my weight.

After the 3rd call from my doctor whom does not call me - he told me - you have type two Diabetes - we had a pretty good inclination when the sugar in my urine high - but the blood test was close to 350 - 100 is normal slightly above that is a concern.  My physician even stated if we had the blood work in the office you would have left here on several medications.

Medication was only the first step, Nutritional Counseling was a prescription the doctor issued.  Upon diagnosis i immediately put my self on a south beach zero carbohydrate diet; you can imagine the relief when she stated - you cannot exist on no carbs - was so happy to have a sandwich that first day.

"sure you eat healthy"   a was required to keep a food diary so we could review and discuss.  Our second meeting two week later we started to adopt the - half of the plate each meal must be comprised of non-starchy vegetables.

a so my intense adventures with vegetables begins -
